Like running? Like good tunes? Like eating cake?
If you answered ‘Yes!’ to any of these, then the good news is the ERN LP Run and cake competition will be back in August 2017 at Meadowbank Stadium for our 8th year, at Meadowbank Stadium (for the last time before this venue is demolished!).
The LP run began in Houston, Texas, back in 1967, organised by Terlingua Track Club. Heather Jones introduced the idea of an LP run in Scotland, and the inaugural LP run took place in 2010 on the track at Saughton Sports Complex, and again in 2011. We moved to Meadowbank Sports Centre in 2012 to accommodate a larger field, and this was repeated in 2013, in 2014 as one of the club’s 10th Anniversary celebration events and again in 2015 and 2016.
How it Works
The run is based on the oldest race in Houston, Texas now in its 50th year. For the iPod generation here is a short explanation. On the crack of the starting pistol you run as many Revolutions Per Minute (laps) of the track as you can during 33 and a third minutes, all the while listening to top tunes. Entrants are given a band for each lap completed and there will be independent verification of the front runners and prizes for the top male and female finishers, as well as spot prizes.
Edinburgh Running Network members love their cake, so bring along an entry to the cake competition too. The cakes will be judged as the race is run. Prizes will be awarded for the best cakes.
After the race is done and dusted, arguably the best bit – tea, coffee and cake!
Music On The Run
You also have the option to choose a tune you’d like to hear played as you’re running, and you get the chance to choose a tune to run to!
Supporting Local Charities
All profits from the event are donated to support a different local charity each year, meaning you’re having fun in aid of a good cause.
If we have piqued your interest, entries will be open in May 2017 at Entry Central
2017 LP run T-shirts will be available to pre-order with your entry.
ERN is one of the friendliest running clubs in Scotland. Come along and find out just how much we, and you, love to run, and eat cake.
