Club Committee

  • ChrisChris March – Chair : Chris joined ERN for a bit of company whilst running – and much as she loves running round Arthur’s Seat she had a sneaky suspicion that there were more routes to be had; joining ERN helped out on both scores and more. Since then, she became Club Secretary in 2009 and Chair in 2013 and is also Run Leader for the Tuesday and Thursday evening sessions. Finding running buddies and new routes = mission accomplished! As Chair, she’s always up for new ideas for the club so let her know if you have something in mind!  Passionate about parkrun she is a member of the core volunteer team at Portobello parkrun where many ERN members are regular runners and volunteers. As for the company – ERN is renowned for being an incredibly sociable club – and you’d better believe it!

  • EmilyEmily Alston – Secretary : Emily started running when she was talked into taking part in the Race for Life 5K and joined ERN shortly after, looking for some company to keep her running through the winter. Emily usually runs on Mondays (somewhere near the back!) and is also a beach fun regular in the summer. As she has ERN to thank for the best group of running buddies she can possibly imagine, Emily took on the Secretary role in 2016 hoping to give something back to the club.

  • KristaKrista Black – Treasurer : One of our Canadian contingent, Krista started running with a small group from Meadowbank that eventually formed into the Edinburgh Running network in 2005. Since then she has run further than she ever imagined and in places she only dreamed of. Krista also loves open water swimming, CrossFit and triathlon. She has completed 8 marathons, half ironman triathlon and is always training for her next adventure. She is constantly inspired by the runners at ERN and loves being part of the running community.

  • Ellie

    Ellie Barnard – LP Run Race Director: Ellie is the Race Director of the ERN LP Run for 2015. Started in 2009 by original race director Heather Jones, copying a running event format from her Houston days, Edinburgh’s LP Run introduced new innovations – a cake competition, edible medals, and entrants selecting the soundtrack to the event. Having run on her own for several years, Ellie joined ERN in 2006 and discovered the joys of running with other people. Encouraged by their enthusiasm, she ran several 10k, 10 mile and half-marathon races before deciding that what keeps her running is not longer distances or faster times, but the scenery and the great company. She now focuses on running for fun, hence her enthusiasm for the LP Run.

  • EllyElly Mackenzie – Membership Secretary : Elly started running with JogScotland in 2003 (as a complete novice) and joined Edinburgh Running Network when it was first set up. After starting with 5km and 10km’s and thinking that this would be her limit, she has gradually progressed to ½ marathons, has completed a couple of marathons and completed her first ultra marathon in 2013. She also completed a cross-country ski marathon in 2013. She says “The support ERN provided me on my training runs has helped me fulfil my goals. I may not be fast but I do enjoy the company on the longer runs and the support at races.”

  • RachelRachel Moir – Communications Co-ordinator : Rachel joined ERN in September 2011 after a rather difficult time training solo for her first marathon earlier in that year. She has since completed six marathons, both at home and abroad, and four ultra-marathons. Rachel has also dipped her toe into the world of off-road triathlon and hopes to conquer a few more events in 2016. This has all been possible due to the fab support and guidance from ERN, the numerous slices of cake consumed on Sunday mornings and the occasional post run beer. As the Communications Coordinator at ERN, Rachel is responsible for the weekly newsletter and providing club support as an Executive Board member – if you want to get the word out about any races, events or just general running info, please get in contact!

  •  width=Vicky Crichton – Kit Co-ordinator: Vicky had been running slowly and sporadically for a few years when she chanced upon a group of ERNies at the end of a trail run in late 2015. With the group’s chat drowning out her running demons, she has run further and faster than she ever thought her wee legs would take her. She ran her first marathon in Seville in February 2017 and has the zeal of a convert about trail running (unless there’s sand involved). Vicky is particularly pleased with the excuse running gives her to eat all the cake, drink all the beer and incite ice-cream runs at every possible opportunity. Since her introduction to the club came through spotting someone in a branded ERN t-shirt, Vicky is excited to help to get the word out there to potential members by getting you lot kitted out and looking fabulous.

  • Emma LougheedEmma Lougheed – Social Secretary : Having spent years protesting she couldn’t run the length of herself, Emma started running in 2013 when someone turned the speed up on the gym treadmil and she had no option but to keep her legs moving! 4 months later she crossed the finish line of Manchester 10k and started running with the Westwoods Jog Scotland group soon after. Emma joined ERN at the end of 2014 to progress from half to full marathon distance using the Sunday long run programme where she found the support and company over those long winter miles invaluable. She still has something of a love-hate relationship with running and is more often found in the gym than pounding the pavements. Emma is passionate about anything baked and has no shame in running for food. As social secretary she is responsible for ensuring there is a provision of baked goods at any opportunity and organising social events throughout the year including the ERN Annual Awards Dinner, summer BBQ and post-Edinburgh Marathon Festival pizza party. She is also a member of the core volunteer team at Portobello parkrun where many ERN members are regular runners and volunteers

  • AnnAnn Rautenbach – Social Media Editor : Back in January 2011 Ann made a resolution to lose weight and get fit. From those early beginnings when a 2km walk was deemed ‘actually quite tiring’, Ann joined a gym, lost weight and discovered running. In Autumn 2011 Ann entered her first race (5k) and in early 2012 joined ERN to add to the social side of running along with tips and advice and is a regular attender at the Monday night training sessions. Since then she’s definitely been bitten by the race bug building up to entering more than 10 races a year ranging from 5 and 10k to half marathons, with a mixture of road and trail, running over bridges (Forth Road 10k) and even races around an island at low tide (Black Rock 5). Particular favourites are races which end up with a good spread of sandwiches and cake. In 2016 Ann joined the ERN management as Social Media Editor charged with keeping the contents of the club website and Facebook pages up to date.

  • John EdmondJohn Edmond – Route Master : John has been running on and off with ERN since 2012. 17 stone and overweight he got back into running after an enjoyable (6 year) career in the Army in his youth. No half measures for this lad, straight into his first marathon in 2012, running it (Edinburgh) in fancy dress. John loves his grub and socialising with members of the group and his many friends outwith. A very keen ultra runner now inspired by Rachael Moir’s effort on the Hoka Highland Fling, he has never looked back. Also having done a Jog Leader’s course, he is glad to use this experience to help the group. When not running John enjoys charity work (Especially with Animals) and messing about with computers (Geeky Sod) !!!
