Myvanwy said : “Fantastic day out running in the Breacon Beacons on Saturday on a well-marked course with brilliant organisation. I entered this run for training and as a way to explore the hills, while I am working in Cardiff for a few weeks.
The day went well but I did make a few mistakes. Firstly I underestimated the terrain, I hadn’t realised the Welsh think a trail marathon is what we call a hill marathon. My trail shoes were not quite appropriate for the muddy sheep tracks and bogs that made up the paths! I should have realised what the terrain would be like after reading the extensive kit list however I was too blasé about the conditions. I regretted this a little while running in the gale force winds and horizontal hail for 5 hours. There was a moment when I really wished that I had taken the extra optional kit suggested of spare gloves and leggings!
Over all it was a brilliant but tough course with challenging weather but I can thoroughly recommended the series to anyone who finds themselves in Wales. The scenery, when the clouds lifted, was perfect for hill running. An added bonus of the day was finishing first female and receiving my first ever trophy 🙂 .
