The addition of a 38 mile Ultra Marathon to the popular Jedburgh Running Festival resulted in a long day for some ERN members when they travelled down to The Borders. Phil Humphries and Caroline Mckay, who finished as 3rd female, a fantastic result, had an 8:00am start! For the rest of us, there was a more relaxed to the day, but many of us stayed on after the shorter events to welcome home the ultra runners as they completed this tough new event. A good day out despite the cool, damp conditions.
Phil said : The Ultramarathon was certainly a tough one – lots of deep mud and steep hills. At the finish several runners said “it was like a 38 mile border cross-country race with Scotlands most southerly Munros in the middle !” Maybe a slight exageration, but still I throughly enjoyed it…the fields and trees, the autmun colours, the fantastic views from the top of the Eildon hills… oh and all the mud too!
