David said : I headed over to Dunfermline for the Auld Toun 10k held in Pittencrieff Park on a Wednesday evening. Although the sun was shining it wasn’t very warm and I found myself shivering at the start line but once the race got going the temperature was just about ideal.
The route consisted of two and a half laps (inside and outside) of the park and was gently undulating. The parts inside the park were very pleasant and there were two parts outside the park. The first involved running past a row of fast food take-aways and the accompanying inviting aromas. The second part was a long, fast downhill section, ideal for making up some time. I took it quite easy on the first lap and tried to push a hit harder on the second lap once I knew what was in store. I didn’t look at my watch until the finish line was in sight and was a little surprised to find I was on course for a new PB. That gave me a nice little boost and I managed a final surge to the finish. I was really pleased to find I had knocked 90 seconds off my PB. I got a goody bag with a medal, packet of crisps, chocolate biscuit and a bottle of water at the finish.
Overall I enjoyed the race as it was a nice route (with PB potential as demonstrated) and there was a good sized crowd out to offer support and encouragement.
