The Corstorphine 5 Mile Road Race is now in its 9th year and attracts over 100 runners to Turnhouse Road on a midweek evening for a tour along part of the perimeter of Edinburgh Airport and the roads around Turnhouse Golf Course and Cammo. An undulating course, fast in places, with some sharp changes in elevation, but a fun evening out.
Bex said : It was a lovely balmy evening, perfect for a nice wee flat (or so I stupidly assumed) run. I turned up, registered and met up with Mike, Andy and Alastair from DERG. Just before the start Mike talked me through the course and I realised it wasn’t going to be the easy run I’d planned for! The race was the shortest I’d done so didn’t really have a plan other than just to try to keep up with the folk in front. The route was well marshalled and a nice run, if slightly hilly in places. Mile 4 was the killer as the hill just seemed to keep going but the marshals were very supportive and the nursery rhyme, Five Little Ducks was going round in my head on a loop and was the perfect beat to get me up the hills. Not particularly cool but there we go.
I came in just over 39 minutes which I’m pleased with and Mike managed a PB too.
A really lovely race with a great atmosphere and lots of lovely food afterwards too, definitely one to squeeze in next year.
