Wow! Jo Forbes, Jo Tennant, Krista Black, Megan Davey and Fi Mackenzie took part in this open water swimming festival based at Portobello Beach, Edinburgh. There were a number of different events; Krista and Megain took part in the 2km race which actually started in Musselburgh while the remainder took part in the 400m race. Of note is Megan’s effort in taking part in both events! Brilliant races and much needed experience for those taking part in the upcoming Craggy Island Triathlon. To cap it all off, Fi (2nd) and Megan (3rd) won prizes in category. Well done to all, great effort!

Megan said: “Conditions were pretty perfect and most of the big debris from last week’s flooding had washed up on the shore the day before reducing the obstacles in the water. The sun even shone briefly for about a minute during the 2km. We all came out with brown beards, and that wasn’t just because of the cold. Great day finished with beer and haggis. Sorry to have missed out at the prize giving but I had no idea I might have got a medal and a cup of tea seemed in order at the time. I’m entered for the duathlon in sept. Anyone else?
Bye for now,

A 400m open water swim would provide us with the experience of a mass start, sighting & being bashed around with other folk in the sea.
Very well organised event which had 3 races, a 2k, 800m & 400m swim all taking place in Portobello Beach. Headed down early to see Krista set off for her 2k swim from Musselburgh to Portobello (which she was brilliant at!), lots of folk out supporting and perfect weather conditions. Our race didnt set off til 4:30pm so there was lots of time to get nervous, it was nice to share the nerves as we all felt the same!
Racing into the sea to start the swim was a new experience, there was a large sprint group who powered off ahead which left space for us meaning it wasnt too crowded. Found the sighting ok as the yellow bouys are easy to see so didn’t detour too much. Once at the shore our amazing supporters (Krista, Tracy, Lee, Andy & Jo’s friends) were fantastic & made it feel really special to finish!
Stayed around for the prizegiving & Fi won 2nd Vet category, fantastic! Also Megan Davey won a prize in her category too.
A great event if you fancy trying something different, they even had a ceilidh organised for everyone as part of the entry so we went along for that with some beers & really celebrated our achievement!
