Musselburgh 10K 2011

A great day out; beautiful sunny weather but with a kind breeze saw 27 ERNs and friends take part in this well organised and friendly race. Pan flat, the route takes you from the start at Loretto Sports Field, out to the harbour, back and round the lagoons before coming back via Musselburgh Race Course. Some fast times and PBs to boot. As always, many thanks to all the organisers and marshals at Musselburgh and District Athletic Club (and for the great spread afterwards); a great race, highly recommended – see you next year.

Mike said: “The Musselburgh 10K is an excellent, small, local race. Great route on a mixture of surfaces an one of the flattest routes you’ll find . Almost ideal conditions, with a cooling breeze along the coastal sections, but a bit warm in a couple of sheltered sections. Set out looking to go under 51 minutes and managed that quite comfortably, though my pace was slower than I’d have liked in the last couple of km. Could I have pushed a bit harder and gone sub-50? If I’d realised I was going to get so close, probably! ;o) Still 2:46 off my PB isn’t a bad morning’s work! Very friendly atmosphere, good support, with ice cream and an excellent spread at the finish! I’ll be back next year.

Chris said: “After hearing everyone glow about this race in previous years I decided to ditch my usual July Yorkshire holiday and make sure I was in Edinburgh and entered it. I wasn’t disappointed; fabulous course round my favourite runs – thanks to Murdo’s Sunday programmes we know this part of town well and I just love it! Flat and amazing scenery – coast line and greenery – just perfect!

The race was incredibly well organised, the chip timing was a bonus for someone with two watches which don’t work and wearing one which I couldn’t get to work! Getting the times up within a few minutes of folks finishing was a real coup! If that wasn’t enough, refuelling was extremely well catered for – finish the race, straight into the ice cream queue and plenty of water on hand – great as the weather was so hot. If that wasn’t enough lashings of tea, sandwiches and cakes of every variety. Musselburgh AC obviously worked very hard and if I had a hat – it would go off to them! They really pulled it off! Brilliant … there won’t be any more July Yorkshire holidays for me … I’ll be here in Edinburgh doing you know what!”

Emily said: “Just to let you know my time yesterday 1:00:25 was a PB for me. Will be back next year to try and do something about those 25 seconds!

Thanks for cheering me on at the finish.

Deirdre said: “Just to say I had a great day out at the Musselburgh 10km. I’ve not been running for a while as I’ve been a bit poorly but hoping to get back into it. Saturday’s event was a lovely route, great weather, well organised and it was so nice to see and speak to so many ERN people again – everyone made me feel very welcome. Thank you!

Regards, Deirdre”
