Gillian Grant took part in the 26th running of this fine local end-of-year half marathon. Arguably one of the most scenic and Gillian’s favourite. Thankfully the weather stayed fine throughout. Cheers to all concerned at Lochaber AC.
Gillian said: “Hi, just back from my favourite half marathon of the year. Eddie’s; an out and back based at Fort William.
You can enter on the day (£14) from half nine until about one minute before it starts at noon. Starts and finishes in shinty field next to Sports Centre we registered at. First mile is through housing estates but the bulk of it is out and back along a quiet country road running along side Loch Linnhe. Very scenic heading back with Ben Nevis in the distance. Bit undulating but not too bad and the marshals were very supportive. I wanted to enjoy the day and the views so planned to run it at ten minute miling. Was well pleased when I finished in 2 10 47 (9min 59 miling). My pacing must be getting better! Quality medal and free tea and biscuits for all runners and supporters back in the sports centre.
Loads of prizes for every category you can think off handed out shortly after last runner finished. Nice touch was the reception the gentleman who won the 80 years old plus category got. He was cheered on and off the stage. Warmest reception I’ve ever seen for any winner at any race. He was the only one in his category but what an achievement.
