Krista Black and Tracy Paterson travelled cross-border to take part in the Penrith Triathlon. This event run by Eden District Council comprised a 400m pool swim started in waves, a 22km bike loop on open roads and a 5km run on adjacent fields. An excellent event by all accounts, welcoming athletes of all abilities. Well done to both and Tracy’s 10th in category with a dodgy Achilles is of particular note.

Tracy said: “The Penrith triathlon is a very well organised event, welcoming beginners to serious competitors. The swim was timed into 9 heats departing every 15 minutes, so we had a nervous wait for an hour plus before starting. Having done a recce the day before, Krista and I were very daunted at the prospect of tackling the hilly cycle route plus the strong winds, but we both found it easier and more enjoyable than expected. The run was entirely on grass, for which my Achilles was thankful, but it was psychologically quite hard because it consisted of two laps plus a lot of loops around a playing field. Still, a great event and I’m so proud of Krista and I. Very highly recommended for all levels of interest and ability”
