Well done to Emma Silvey who took part in the Islay Half while visiting with friends. An undulating course and a particularly strong headwind were made up for by friendly support, scenic course and a dram at the end!

Emma said: “A lovely day in Islay on Saturday 7th August to run the Ardbeg Islay Half Marathon, a small field of runners (157) braved a hilly course on an out and back from Bowmore. The first 3 miles were particularly tough with a hill start and lots of short steep ups and down, before a long incline between miles 3 and 7. Everyone told me it was flat from the airport (about mile 7.5) to the end but it didn’t feel it, the strong headwind didn’t help and I made the rookie error of putting my head down to avoid the wind which meant I couldn’t straighten up by the time I got to the end! Not a bad time but definitely room for improvement, it’s a challenging course but the beautiful scenery, friendly locals and the dram of whisky really makes the trek to Islay worthwhile – I’ll be back next year!”
