Good turnout of ERNs and fiends at this excellent local race. Warm (if a bit close) but dry weather, a flat well organised course and welcoming hosts made for a great race. Add to this – ice cream when you finished, a large spread of sanies and cakes, prize giving and a children’s run and you can see why it’s gaining in popularity each year. The race started and finished in Loretto School’s playing fields and followed a route to the harbour, back and over the Esk River and around the Ash Lagoons then back via Musselburgh Race Course to finish with a circuit of the playing fields. Some good times posted on this flat course with varied surfaces; tarmac, compacted paths and grass. Unfortunately, Ursula Friede had been suffering from a sore back and, along with her companion John Campbell, decided after about 3km to stop. Hopefully she’ll be back soon – best wishes for a speedy recovery from all at ERN.
Thanks to Nicola for her photos and to Gail for coming along to support – much appreciated. Well done to the runners and many thanks to all at Musselburgh AC for a great race and day-out – a highly recommended event. Hope to see you next year. Details below.

Murdo’s report: “This was an excellent event, well organised and friendly. The (unusually) good weather (and Parkrun was cancelled for today) ensured a good field. The course is flat and familiar to those that have been on our longer Sunday runs. The bit across the race course is different and welcomed as was the variety of surfaces. The run was chipped this year and there was a nice mug memento on completion as well as a large choice of sandwiches and cakes. Also, there was a Di Rollo’s ice cream for all the runners – yummy! In short, an excellent, scenic, friendly and well organised local race.”
