Excellent weather greeted Murdo, Stephen and Neil for their attempt at this popular local race. You can enter beforehand (£7/£9) or on the day (£1 extra) which is excellent value for money. The race HQ/registration and post-run spread were held at Penicuik High School. Parking was readily available on adjoining streets and registration was straightforward, picking up numbers if you’d pre-entered, with plenty of Harriers to assist if you had any queries.

The race starts and finishes in a nearby park and heads out of the town, downhill for a wee bit before climbing steadily and at times steeply for the next 3kms. After Howgate the route is undulating, before dropping back down into Penicuik (apart from a short climb towards the end) to finish with a circuit in the park. The route is humply and exposed in sections but very scenic, well marshalled and super friendly. All runners were happy with their times; Neil taking off nearly 1 minute (and 3 places) from last year!
At the end a very impressive spread of tea/coffee and excellent home baking awaited the finishers. Results were quickly available and Murdo and Neil stayed for the enjoyable prize giving. In short, an excellent challenging event, well organised and friendly – A great local race in the best possible sense. Thanks to Penicuik Harriers for a great event – recommended.
