The Moorfoot Runners host an annual 10km road race in Peebles and this year Gillian Grant went along to try it out. Turned out to be an enjoyable day at the races.

Gillian said: “On Sunday 14th I took part in the Peebles 10k. Although it’s been around for a few years now first time I’ve participated. Based around a leisure centre in the middle of Peebles starting and finishing right beside it. This of course means lockers, showers loos are available. You can enter on the day for £12.
Start is rather cruel, running right round the out skirts of a large muddy field, then out along the river side, where there was a triathlon going on. Up onto a very pleasant rural country road to the half way mark then up onto a parallel road to run back to Peebles. The triathlon was still going strong. “Where do they find the energy ? ” I wondered as I puffed past. And yes we had to run round that same large muddy field to get to the finishing line !
Did it in 54.17 and was rewarded with a medal and rather a lot of Lucozade gels etc from the nice man who was running their promotional stall so all in all was a good morning out.”
The friend is Norrie Wood who you may well have seen around. He runs with Fiona’s Jog Scotland group. He went flying past me at 8km and finished about a minute ahead of me. Such is life!“
