Congratulations to Kristen Davies who took part in the 26th running of this event. This well established half marathon followed a new route this year, which seemed to have gone down well with all runners; more humply but scenic, starting at Carlisle Castle and finishing at the local Sheepmount sports stadium. While suffering from a niggling injury, Kristen still managed to knock 5 minutes off her PB time – well done.
Kristen said: “Aye, I was a little surprised by that time, given that I found this run quite tough and stopped to walk a fair bit. I’m not sure if I gave myself enough time to recover after the GNR. This time I was running by myself (that had been a big mental barrier to break!) and with what I think is a sprained or broken toe – the ibuprofen wore off by the 4 mile mark! I’m having difficulty walking on it today (Monday)
The weather was perfect – an early drizzle but clearing after and we managed to miss the afternoon rain shower. The event was well organised and it was great to finish on the stadium track. Unfortunately I got caught out, thinking that there’d be sports drinks on the course so I’ll know to take my own next time.
I’m not sure what’s next, there doesn’t seem to be a lot on over winter. I’ll definitely sign up for the Edinburgh half marathon early next year though.
My first run in the ERN top – I’m going to have to make sure that I make time to get to ERN this term at school to earn it! That’s Mary in the photograph too (friend of a friend) – she said she didn’t mind going on the website.”
