The first Moray Marathon was held in 1982 and since then it has developed into a 3 in 1 running event incorporating the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K Road Races through the picturesque landscape of Moray. This year Gillian Grant joined another 273 runners in the Half Marathon event. Some photos and report below:-
Gillian said “Since I’ve done Glasgow about 4 times I decided to take a trip North this year and do the Moray half instead. It’s a different sort of an experience. Part of a running festival made up of a marathon, a half marathon and a 10k. In total about 500 participants. It’s timed so that we could watch the marathon start then jump on the buses waiting to take us to Gordonston School where the halfie started. Cool cloudy day but not a drop of rain about. A very rural course heading out towards the coast, through Lossiemouth and back to Elgin along a flat wooded road. Nice flat finish into Elgin Cathedril Park enlivened by some of the faster marathon runners sprinting past me to the finishing line ! I managed 1 56 48 and after collecting a quality medal and T shirt a banana and water I retired to the local civi centre where free sandwiches, tea and short bread were on offer. I recommend it as a good excuse for a week-end away with definate PB potential for better runners than me.”
