“Well what can I say, a personal best for me and therefore no need to do another one! The Wolverhampton 1/2M was a circular route round the park and then through the housing estates and back roads of Wolverhampton. The weather was bright and sunny and there was plenty of water stations and support from the locals sitting in their gardens. I would say my only complaints would be at the start the full marathon, half marathon and half marathon relay runners all line up together although it is a small group the slow runners/walkers are not advised to start at the back of the group. At the end of the run there is water, tee-shirt and medal and if you were lucky some caramel shortbread from Greggs although this was not advertised to the finishers!

The route for the full marathon was two laps of the half marathon course. First lap was great running with the half marathon and relay runners in a field of over a thousand. I felt good and ran a quick half in about 1hr 37 min, but as the half marathon and relay runners finished, suddenly it got very quiet and lonely on the second lap. The course seemed strange and if it wasn’t for the occasional marshal and road sign I could have convinced myself I had taken a wrong turn. The course seemed to have more undulations in it as well and about 6 miles out the legs where really aching and I felt I was bouncing off the “wall”, but managed to hang in and finish in a personal best. On the whole a friendly marathon with a small field (248 finishers), but could have done with some caramel shortbread with about 6 miles to go.”

Note the lovely new strips!
